Project Assignment

In this project I was tasked with creating a brand for a product that is packaged. The goal was to learn about how a brand system can be applied consistently across multiple 3-dimensional designs. Beyond creating labels, I was required to create a product box. This will teach the skills necessary for creating a dieline for packaging.

My goals/objectives

/ Gain experience researching market and audience and considering their needs when creating a design

/ Understand through application how a brand system (logo, graphics, color, type, pattern, etc.) is applied broadly

/ Gain experience with the unique design considerations for packaging design

Project Creation

At the time of this project my beard was running wild and I was struggling to find a product that could tame it. I wanted to create a product that could tame most unruly of beards, hence the name Unruly. This beard oil will be made of all natural ingredient and will cruelty free. The packaging deliverables will also be made out of recyclable materials.

Slogan:
"Those Who Can't Be Tamed"

Slogan: "Those Who Can't Be Tamed"

Visual Research

Designs: Most competitors brands use typography with bold straight lines and sharpe edges. Typical typeface used is either a san-serif or a custom display text. Most brand incorporate earth tone into their design’s color palette often using black for contrasting backgrounds. Most brand logos feature an icon in shape of a beard.

Label: Most competitors include a warning label, ingredients, and application direction.

Design Development

At the start of the design process the logo’s slogan was “Tame the beast”, but as I got further into the development process I realized that this slogan wasn’t the best fit for the brand’s target market. So the slogan was changed to “Those who can’t be tamed” I believed this slogan sounded more sophisticated and the perception of the brand would be focused around quality.
